Freiburg University Medical Center reforests regional area with 1,000 trees / Employees help intensively with joint planting campaign

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, around 30 employees of the University Medical Center Freiburg planted 400 trees on a fallow forest area in the St. Wilhelm Valley near Oberried in a joint planting campaign. The University Medical Center will reforest the area with a total of 1,000 deciduous and coniferous trees. The trees will absorb around 1,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere over the course of their lives.

"Climate protection is health protection," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Director of the Freiburg University Medical Center. "That's why we are taking responsibility: thanks to our highly committed employees, we were able to plant a piece of the future today - for our employees, our patients and everyone in the region."

Sycamore maple, Norway maple, larch, rowan - instead of a monoculture, mixed forest will grow on the site in future. The young plants have been provided with stable protection against browsing and will be regularly cared for over the next five years.
