Focus on eye health - University Eye Clinic invites you to an open day

On October 11, Eye Center offers all interested parties a varied program with guided tours of the clinic, lectures and information stands


On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg's Department of Ophthalmology will open its doors to the general public. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to experience modern ophthalmology up close at the open day: Information stands, lectures on cataracts and macular degeneration, live demonstrations in the operating theater and specialist consultations will provide a vivid insight into how diagnosis, therapy and research work together - from glaucoma and eye inflammation to clinical studies. There will be plenty of time to talk to experts. Registration is not required.

"We look forward to giving all interested parties a personal insight into our work - whether during live demonstrations in the operating room or in discussions with experts and self-help groups," says Prof. Dr. Thomas Reinhard, Medical Director of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg's Eye Center. "It is important to us to make ophthalmology tangible - for those affected as well as for laypeople."

Ophthalmology for all - a diverse day of action

Starting at 8.50 a. m., the South Baden Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired will be organizing the Day of Vision in the Killianstrasse lecture hall, which is aimed at visually impaired people, relatives and interested parties. Presentations will cover topics such as inflammation inside the eye, glaucoma, neurological eye diseases and rehabilitation services for the visually impaired. The program will be supplemented by an exhibition of aids, a blind person's course and numerous advice options from self-help groups such as PRO RETINA, BSVSB or the glaucoma self-help group.

At the same time, the Freiburg Cornea Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 11.15 a . m . at the Eye Center, Killianstraße 5, as advanced training for doctors. Modern corneal examination and treatment methods will be presented in five thematic blocks - from keratoconus to Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy. The event has been submitted to the State Medical Association for certification and is aimed at ophthalmology specialists.
