Midnight donation at the Blood Donation Center of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg on July 7

On Friday, July 7, it's that time again: The Blood Donation Center of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg invites you to the popular midnight donation. From 5 p.m. to midnight, all night owls will have the opportunity to enjoy blood-red, alcohol-free cocktails and small snacks in the garden behind the blood donation center after doing their good deed.

"The midnight donation is now in its sixth year and has become a good tradition," says Dr. Markus Umhau, who, as Medical Director of the Blood Donation Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, has been responsible for the safe blood supply of the Medical Center and the surrounding hospitals for more than ten years. "Donating blood is like the pension system: in healthy times, it is possible to give. In times of illness or old age, you can then rely on the blood bank," says Dr. Umhau. Around 80 out of 100 people are dependent on blood products in the course of their lives. People with cancer or seriously injured people are particularly dependent on blood products. But blood products are also needed for organ transplants and major operations.

The Blood Donation Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg regularly combines the life-saving act with life-enhancing activities through numerous campaigns - such as donor breakfasts, prize weeks or midnight donations. The focus is on a pleasant atmosphere and the joy of donating. Nevertheless, Dr. Umhau has to admit: "Unfortunately, the willingness to donate is declining throughout Germany and also in Freiburg. That's why we have to keep reminding people that donating blood is vital. Without the solidarity of many people, modern patient care is not possible!"

Midnight donation, 7.7.5 p.m. to midnight
Monday8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday12 to 7 p.m.
Thursday12 to 7 p.m.
Friday8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Every 1st and 3rd Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 68 can donate (first-time donors up to the age of 60). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks.

Free parking is available in the nearby underground parking garage of the University Hospital. Streetcar line 5, Friedrich-Ebert-Platz stop, offers an alternative means of public transportation.

Please note: You must bring your identity card and vaccination card with you every time you donate blood.
