Emotional violence: How insult, disregard and humiliation make you ill
On Tuesday, 28 May 2019, Dr. Werner Bartens will speak at the Psychosomatic Tuesday Colloquium at the University Medical Center Freiburg about emotional violence and how to protect yourself from its negative consequences
Whether at work, at school or in the family: emotional violence can occur in all areas of life.
Dr. Werner Bartens, medical doctor, author and senior editor in the science department of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", will explain the physical and psychological consequences of emotional injuries and how those affected can defend themselvesin his lecture
"Emotionale Gewalt: Kränkung, Missachtung und Erniedrigung. When empathy is missing"
in the Auditorium Maximum of the University of Freiburg
(Kollegiengebäude II, Platz der Alten Synagoge).
The bestselling author will present findings from his book "Emotional Violence - What really hurts us: Offense, humiliation, withdrawal of love and how we can protect ourselves against it", which was published in August 2018. He explains how emotional violence leads to the increased release of stress hormones in those affected, weakens the immune system and can even promote depression and anxiety disorders in the long term. He will also show ways in which victims of emotional violence can protect themselves.
The colloquium lectures are open to all interested parties and will take place on Tuesdays from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Audimax during the 2019 summer semester.
All events are certified with continuing education points for doctors and psychologists.
