Interesting facts and information about the treatment of cancer awaits all visitors at the
Open Day
in the new building of the Interdisciplinary Tumor Center (Hugstetter Straße 53, Freiburg)
on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 11 am to 4 pm.
Patient rooms and outpatient clinics can be viewed in the University Medical Center Freiburg's newest building. Visitors can explore the building themselves or take part in a guided tour every hour on the hour. A special highlight of the open day are the virtual reality glasses, which allow guests to experience operations, radiotherapy and a ride on the hospital's automated goods transport system in 360-degree panoramic view. They can also measure their lung volume, determine their blood group and register as a stem cell donor. The day's program is rounded off by a variety of specialist presentations and information stands from self-help groups and advice services on all aspects of cancer.
There will also be exciting things for children to discover: With 3D cube puzzles, sound tubes and tornadoes in a water bottle, they can get a taste of the world of science with the "Wunderfitze" experiments from the Förderverein Science und Technologie e.V. association.
Outside, visitors can explore the "ECMO-Mobile" - a special intensive care transport vehicle for mobile lung replacement for patients with acute lung failure. The university hospital rickshaws are available for short tours of the hospital park.
Various refreshment stands with smoothies, hearty soups, quiches and wraps will provide the necessary refreshment in between.
The building:
On 6,300 square meters, the new Interdisciplinary Tumor Center houses internal oncology and surgical oncology wards with a total of 104 beds, state-of-the-art outpatient and laboratory rooms, interdisciplinary consultation hours, a day clinic for day-case chemotherapy and the central appointment service for tumor patients. A research unit for early clinical studies is also housed here, as well as psychosocial cancer counseling, nutritional counseling and a variety of complementary services for patients at the Tumor Center Freiburg - CCCF. As a pioneer in terms of digital hospitals, the Interdisciplinary Tumor Center has central registration terminals and a digital guidance system that guides patients through the building with the help of monitors. In addition, a filter system on the second floor ensures ultra-clean air and gives patients with impaired immune systems freedom of movement. To ensure that they have a pleasant stay at the Interdisciplinary Tumor Center, the patient rooms were decorated by four artists. Various art objects in the outpatient clinics and waiting areas are also intended to contribute to a health-promoting atmosphere.
