Book your parking ticket with the app

From August 1, 2019, anyone who parks their car on the grounds of the University Medical Center Freiburg will also be able to pay their parking fees using their smartphone

From August 1, 2019, patients and visitors to the University Medical Center Freiburg who arrive by car will have a new parking option. They will be able to download the EasyPark app onto their smartphone and use it to book their parking ticket. "With this digital service, we are setting up a parallel payment system to the existing parking machines," says Henning Meyer, Head of Services at the University Medical Center Freiburg. The hospital is dividing its parking spaces in the area of the central hospital in Stühlinger and the external hospitals in Hauptstraße into six zones so that those looking for a parking space can enter their parking zone in the app.

With this system, the University Medical Center Freiburg is a pioneer in the city for mobile payment of parking fees. "We see many advantages for drivers," says Meyer. For example, they don't have to have change ready for the machines. Instead, they can use the EasyPark app to start, extend or end their parking time remotely and without cash. This avoids having to overpay or buy a ticket on site, and you can also avoid parking tickets by clicking on "Extend". However, it is important to note: The general parking rules and the maximum parking time in the hospital's parking zones still apply.

How cell phone parking works

If you want to use the EasyPark app, download it to your smartphone, enter your details and select a payment method. After starting the app, the parking time for the car is calculated. The first steps for cell phone parking are also shown again on stickers on the parking ticket machines. The app's map function shows the current parking zone and 15 minutes before the digital parking ticket expires, the app sends the user a push message or SMS reminder. The user receives a digital receipt for each transaction. The app operator's administration fee per parking transaction is 15 percent of the parking fee, or at least 20 cents.

And how does the inspector know who has a digital parking ticket? He uses a database to check for which license plates parking times have been booked. Drivers do not need a special vignette for cell phone parking on the grounds of the University Medical Center Freiburg. However, drivers can of course continue to pay their parking fee at the machine.
