Federal Cross of Merit for Professor Dr. Christoph Bode
Finance Minister Edith Sitzmann presented University Professor Dr. Christoph Bode with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in Freiburg
Bode is Medical Director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology I at the University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen and the Department - University Center of Freiburg. The cardiologist has been highly committed to cardiac research and teaching for decades. "Professor Bode is a creative researcher and a knowledgeable and empathetic physician. His services to the teaching of the heart are recognized worldwide," said Finance Minister Edith Sitzmann.
Bode is intensively involved with blood coagulation and thrombosis formation as well as the question of how they can be influenced therapeutically. This can help patients with so-called atrial fibrillation or a severe narrowing of a coronary vessel. He has shared his findings in over 900 articles in international specialist journals to date. "For students and less experienced colleagues, the Bode school is a household name. He enjoys passing on his knowledge, is a role model, mentor and academic teacher," said Sitzmann. Bode has held the Chair of Internal Medicine (Cardiology, Angiology, Intensive Care Medicine) at the University of Freiburg since 1999.
"He manages to communicate the results of his scientific research not only to specialists, but also to laypeople and the general public," said the Finance Minister. This is what particularly distinguishes Bode. He does immensely important educational work on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Professor Bode is also involved in voluntary work beyond the field of medicine. For example, for the "House of Life" in Freiburg, which supports pregnant women in need and young mothers in difficult personal or social situations. He is also involved in the sea rescue of refugees in the Mediterranean.
