Despite corona: go to hospital immediately in the event of a medical emergency
Emergency care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the University Heart Center Freiburg ∙ Bad Krozingen still possible without restrictions
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of patients in many emergency departments has fallen significantly. "We suspect that some people with serious illnesses no longer dare to go to hospital or their family doctor for fear of contracting the coronavirus," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and Medical Director of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg ∙ Bad Krozingen. However, emergency care is still possible without restriction despite corona. Urgent and non-postponable procedures and operations are also still taking place. Patients without COVID-19 symptoms are examined and treated strictly separately from patients with suspected COVID-19. This minimizes the risk of infection.
Anyone who notices signs of a serious illness such as a heart attack or stroke should therefore call 112 immediately, as they normally would. "With many illnesses, waiting or procrastinating can have serious health consequences," warns Wenz. "You should therefore always seek medical assistance from your family doctor or, in the event of serious symptoms, from the emergency room!"
