Uterus removal with Da Vinci robot established at the Uniklinik Freiburg
State-of-the-art surgical robot at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg provides particularly gentle support during minimally invasive operations
Removal of the uterus is one of the most common gynecological operations. This can be due to benign or malignant tissue changes. When an operation is necessary, many people fear side effects. However, thanks to a state-of-the-art surgical robot, the uterus can now be removed at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg in a minimally invasive and particularly gentle procedure.
Since the introduction of the surgical robot at the beginning of February 2020, 14 hysterectomies have been performed at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg using the Da Vinci surgical robot. This makes the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg the first clinic in South Baden to use this particularly gentle method for uterine operations.
"We are delighted that we have been able to establish this procedure at the University Women's Hospital. The advantages of low blood loss during the procedure and the particularly rapid recovery of patients from the operation are very convincing," says Prof. Dr. Ingolf Juhasz-Böss, Medical Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center of Freiburg.
The Da Vinci surgical system has a controllable video system that provides high-resolution 3D images with up to tenfold magnification. It also consists of several finely movable arms: They enable surgeons to make particularly precise incisions that are almost impossible to perform with the human hand. A surgeon controls the camera and surgical arms on a specially developed console, which transfers the movements of the finger to the robotic arms.
