Donate blood and win a running shirt
Even without a big Freiburg running event in summer, blood donors can win a sporty shirt - and use it to promote blood donation
The Blood Donation Center of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is holding a competition in July. Two running shirts will be raffled off on each opening day. "In recent years, we have always enabled our donors to take part in the Freiburg Running Night. Even if this is unfortunately canceled due to Corona, we still want to offer a bonus for the good deed with the raffle of the running shirts," says Alexia Fante, deputy functional service manager of the Blood Donor Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. "We appeal to the people of Freiburg and the region: please continue to donate blood. Your blood is needed," says Fante. The center needs an average of around 100 donations every day in order to safely supply patients at the hospital with blood products.
Appointment donation for long-term donors, time saving for first-time donors
People who have already donated blood at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg are asked to make an appointment online for their next donation. "This makes the process easier, allows more distance in the waiting area and ensures shorter donation times," explains Fante. This service is not yet available for new donors. However, they can shorten their stay by watching the necessary educational film at home. The donor questionnaire can also be completed in advance.
An identity card and, if possible, a vaccination certificate are required for every blood donation. Donors must be between 18 and 68 years old (first-time donors up to 60 years old). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks.
