The Blood Donor Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is giving every fifth donor a snack voucher

Right after the summer vacations, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg's blood donation center is offering a special extra: In the "Five Wins" campaign, every fifth donor receives a snack voucher that can be redeemed in a nearby café.The campaign runs from September 15 to October 15, 2020.

Blood donors are urgently needed. As many operations that had to be postponed in spring due to the restrictions caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are currently being made up for, the demand for blood reserves is unusually high.

Nevertheless, those responsible at the blood donation center are currently taking a positive view: "We are surprised that we have been able to gain many new donors in recent months. Even though the number of donations fell in August - as it does every year - due to the vacations, we have noticed how committed and reliable people from Freiburg and the region are in their civic engagement," says Dr. Markus Umhau, Medical Director of the Blood Donor Center. "With the new voucher campaign, we would like to offer a little surprise and say thank you on behalf of the many people who could be helped with blood products."

Use an appointment donation

If possible, a blood donation should take place by appointment. Appointment donations guarantee a smooth process and ensure that there are only a few people on the premises at any one time. First-time donors must register before making an appointment. To do this, an email can be sent to blutspende@uniklinik-freiburg.de with the full name and date of birth and the subject "New donor". After registration, it is possible to book an appointment via the appointment module on the website www.blutspende-uniklinik.de.

Anyone who would like to donate blood spontaneously is also welcome. However, there may be longer waiting times for spontaneous donations.

An identity card and, if possible, a vaccination certificate are required for every blood donation. Donors must be between 18 and 68 years old (first-time donors up to 60 years old). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks.
