Six researchers from the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen were among the most frequently cited worldwide / Evaluation of the "Web of Science" research database

The importance of a scientific publication can be measured, among other things, by how often it is cited by other researchers. The "Highly Cited Researchers" ranking now published by the "Web of Science" research database lists the approximately 6,000 most cited researchers in 21 specialist areas and takes into account publications from 2009 to 2019. This year, six Freiburg scientists are among the one percent of the most cited researchers worldwide in the "Clinical Medicine" category.

"We consider ourselves lucky that so many high-performing researchers who are recognized in the medical community are part of the Faculty of Medicine," says Professor Dr. Norbert Südkamp, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine - University of Freiburg. As in 2019, the survey includes Professor Dr. Marco Prinz, Medical Director of the Institute of Neuropathology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, Professor Dr. Jörg Meerpohl, Director of the Institute of Evidence-based Medicine at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and Director of the Cochrane Germany Foundation, and Professor Dr. Franz-Josef Neumann, Medical Director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology II at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg - Bad Krozingen.

They will be joined in 2020 by Professor Dr. Robert Thimme, Medical Director of the Department of Medicine II at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, Professor Dr. Dr. Bertram Bengsch, Section Head at the Department of Medicine II at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, and Privatdozent Dr. Lukas Schwingshackl, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Evidence in Medicine at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
