Corona-related restrictions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg
Number of elective procedures and treatments to be reduced / Visiting regulations to be adjusted / Urgent appeal to comply with hygiene rules
Due to the daily increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and the current forecasts for the coming days and weeks, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the University Heart Center Freiburg ∙ Bad Krozingen are forced to make selective adjustments to medical operations and visitor traffic. This includes a reduction in scheduled procedures and treatments. Exceptions to this are medical emergencies and patients who would suffer a serious health disadvantage without outpatient care. In order to protect the health of employees, patients, relatives and friends, the number of visitors will also be further reduced. Instead of two, only one previously defined person per patient is allowed to visit for the entire duration of their stay. Exceptions are only possible in medically justified cases after consultation with the ward and the Center for Pediatrics. This does not affect existing visiting passes.
"Patient numbers are currently rising significantly and we do not yet see a trend reversal. We have therefore decided to postpone some of the planned treatments for other patients. In this way, we are creating additional capacity for the intensive care of Covid patients. I appeal to everyone to take the current situation seriously and to avoid situations with an increased risk of infection as far as possible," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
Many departments at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg offer video consultations to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment, even from a distance. Anyone who notices signs of a serious illness such as a heart attack or stroke should, as usual, call 112 immediately. "In the case of more serious illnesses, always seek medical support from your family doctor or, in the case of severe symptoms, from the emergency room," emphasizes Wenz.
