Online lecture: Benefits and harms of the immune system

Prof. Dr. Stephan Ehl at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is investigating how the immune system fights viruses and why it sometimes becomes a danger itself / In an online lecture on May 5, he will provide insights into his immune research

It seems paradoxical: the immune system can often effectively fight a Sars-CoV-2 virus infection. At the same time, people with particularly severe Covid-19 disease suffer less from the virus itself than from a misdirected immune response. The role played by so-called T immune cells and what science can learn from children with rare, congenital immune diseases will be reported by paediatrician and immunologist Prof. Dr. Stephan Ehl in the online lecture "Benefits and harms of the immune system - a delicate balance" on Wednesday, 5 May 2021 at 6.30 pm. Ehl is Medical Director of the Center for Chronic Immunodeficiency at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The insights gained in his research allow a generally better understanding of the immune response and are crucial for the development of new therapies. The livestream of the lecture will be broadcast at www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/1hspitzenforschung. There will be an opportunity for questions after the 40-minute lecture.
