Blood Donation Center of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg calls for blood donations before the vacations

The summer season is heralding a decline in donations at the Blood Donation Center of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. "We have seen a dramatic drop in blood donations since this week," says Dr. Elke Weinig, deputy depot manager. "We are therefore urgently appealing to people in Freiburg and the region to come and donate before the vacation season. This is extremely important in order to secure the supply over the vacation weeks." Around 100 people should come to donate each day in order to keep the depot and supply stable. Currently, this figure is up to 20 percent lower.

Blood donation: possible with or without an appointment

If possible, a blood donation should take place with an appointment. This can be arranged online at www.blutspende-uniklinik.de. Donating by appointment ensures a smooth and speedy process. Anyone who would like to donate blood spontaneously is also welcome. Spontaneous donations may result in longer waiting times.

An identity card and, if possible, a vaccination certificate are required for every blood donation. Donors must be between 18 and 72 years old (first-time donors up to 64 years old). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks.
