During the summer vacations, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg offers ice cream for all blood donors on Wednesdays and Thursdays

This year, the Blood Donor Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is once again offering the popular ice cream campaign for loyal blood donors. Every Wednesday and Thursday during the school vacations, all donors receive a cool thank-you gift after their good deed. And donating blood is urgently needed: Because this year, blood stocks are already low before the holiday-related low. That's why the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is urgently calling for donations: "Everyone should enjoy their vacation. But we appeal to everyone: if possible, donate blood before your vacation, because accidents and illness unfortunately don't take a summer break. And after traveling abroad, you have to observe deferral periods in many areas," says Dr. Markus Umhau, Medical Director of the Blood Donation Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The campaign runs from Thursday, July 29 to Friday, September 10, 2021.

Helping a lot with little effort

Donated blood is not only needed when people lose a lot of blood, such as in the event of an accident or major surgery. It also plays an important role in numerous diseases. For example, around 20 percent of all blood donations benefit people with cancer. With very little effort - a little time, a small prick - blood donors can therefore help many patients and often even save lives.

Make an appointment now or drop by spontaneously

You should make an appointment to donate blood. Spontaneous donations with possible waiting times are possible. An identity card and, if possible, a vaccination certificate are required for every blood donation. Donors must be between 18 and 72 years old (first donation up to 64 years). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks.

Opening hours blood donation center:
Monday and Tuesday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Fridayand Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
