The Medical Center - University of Freiburg is taking part in the 900th anniversary of the city of Freiburg with an exhibition of 26 portraits of patients in the hospital park

Around 90,000 inpatients and around 820,000 outpatients are treated at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg every year. These include very young patients who have just started out in life, patients who are in the middle of their lives and those who can look back on a fulfilled life. Each individual, whether young or old, has wishes and dreams that, like their own illness, are directly linked to their life to date. On the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the city of Freiburg, 26 people are showing their wishes and dreams in touching portraits in the Klinikpark.

At the opening on Friday, July 30, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz paid tribute to the exhibition on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg: "I am delighted that our patients are sharing their experiences with us in a completely new way with their portraits in the Klinikpark. The wishes and dreams of the very young patients are particularly touching."

The First Mayor of the City of Freiburg, Ulrich von Kirchbach, was also impressed by the exhibition in the clinic park. "We look back on a worrying year in which all of our lives were threatened and turned upside down by a previously unknown disease. At a time like this, we can count ourselves lucky that the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is an institution that is there for the health and well-being of all Freiburg residents. I wish the exhibition, which offers a touching insight into the patients' thoughts, many interested visitors."

The patients were photographed by Freiburg photographer Britt Schilling. They were staged by graphic designer Julia Benning.

The portraits were taken before the coronavirus pandemic. The ages of all patients correspond to the time at which they were photographed.
