Fire in the laundry extinguished
Fire in the laundry at Freiburg University Hospital quickly extinguished
At around 10 a.m. today, a fire broke out in the laundry at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, which was quickly extinguished by the fire department. All employees were able to leave the building before the fire department arrived.
The fire was caused by a large machine (a so-called finisher), which automatically smoothes and dries textiles in a single operation.
The fire briefly caused a lot of smoke to develop. As a precaution, nine employees were tested for smoke inhalation.
The building is currently being ventilated. It is not yet clear when access to the building can be reopened. The cause of the fire and the amount of damage cannot yet be determined.
Around 14 tons of laundry are washed daily in the laundry of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
