30th Geriatrics Day in Freiburg

Baden-Württemberg symposium on October 15 / Topics include the networking of geriatric centers and geriatric focal points as well as new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for elderly patients


Acute care, outpatient treatment and rehabilitation measures for older people are becoming increasingly important. Today, around one in seven people in Germany is over 70 years old. On Friday, October 15, 2021 from 10:30 am to 6 pm, the 30th Geriatrics Day of the State of Baden-Württemberg will take place as a hybrid event in the Paulussaal Freiburg, Dreisamstraße 3 and online. The conference is organized by the Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Under the motto "Innovation Geriatrics", the program is dedicated, among other things, to the new tasks and networking of Baden-Württemberg's geriatric centers and geriatric focal points. "High-quality, comprehensive care in the sense of person-centered, holistic and cross-sectoral care for older people is dependent on a variety of innovations and appropriate funding," says Health Minister Manne Lucha. "In the field of geriatrics, the state of Baden-Württemberg set the course for more networking and cooperation at an early stage. This is clearly reflected in the Baden-Württemberg Geriatrics Concept. Baden-Württemberg continues to be a pioneer in this field nationwide, and we will continue to work towards this."

The development of current diagnostic and treatment methods for geriatric patients will also be discussed at the conference. The expert presentations will cover aspects of follow-up care for older COVID-19 patients, innovations in surgical care after hip joint injuries, options for gentle denture care and new diagnostic and treatment concepts for the most common geriatric syndrome, dizziness, and care home care. "The aim is to maintain or restore the independence of older people. This also means an increase in quality of life for our patients," says Dr. Bernhard Heimbach, Medical Director of the Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

The full program can be found in the flyer. The conference is aimed at physicians and employees in the fields of nursing care, therapy, psychology and social work as well as other interested parties from the social services.

Program and registration

The conference will take place as a hybrid event. Places in the Paulussaal, Dreisamstraße 3 in Freiburg, are limited and will be allocated in the order in which registrations are received. If all places are taken or not permitted due to the pandemic, you will automatically receive the access data for online participation. If you participate in presence, the 3G rules (recovered, vaccinated or tested) will be checked. A medical face masks must be worn during the event.
