Help with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases

An online information event on chronic inflammatory bowel disease will take place on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 / Affected persons, relatives and interested parties are invited to attend

People with a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis often suffer from abdominal pain and diarrhea, but also from accompanying symptoms such as fatigue or inflammation of other organ systems. On Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., patients, relatives and interested parties can find out which therapies can help today and in the future at the online information event on IBD at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, which is being organized jointly with the self-help association "Deutsche Morbus Crohn/Colitis ulcerosa Vereinigung" (DCCV e.V.).

Participation is free of charge. Registration is required at : www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/anmeldung-veranstaltungen

What a good diet for IBD can look like

In an online lecture, an expert will provide information on nutrition with IBD in everyday life, an important topic for patients. "Those affected are often unsure which foods are permitted with IBD. There are also new findings on how diet can influence the course of IBD," says Prof. Dr. Peter Hasselblatt, Senior Consultant at the Department of Medicine II at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and Head of the Gastrointestinal Outpatient Clinic.

Hope through new drugs and modern surgical procedures

Drug therapy is still a central pillar of IBD treatment. New drugs and approaches to personalized medicine will be presented in a lecture. "Personalized medicine offers new opportunities to adapt drug therapies to each individual patient," says Hasselblatt. "However, good treatment of patients with IBD also requires interdisciplinary treatment together with visceral surgery." A further lecture will therefore deal with new and gentle procedures for the surgical treatment of IBD.

The self-help association "Deutsche Morbus Crohn/Colitis ulcerosa Vereinigung" (DCCV e.V.) will also be presenting its work.
