International award for Freiburg radiation oncologist
Prof. Dr. Anca-L. Grosu from the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is inducted as an honorary member of the American College of Radiology for her advances in high-precision radiotherapy
At the annual meeting of the American College of Radiology (ACR) at the end of April2022in Washington DC, Prof. Dr. Anca-L. Grosu, Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, was made an honorary member of the ACR in a festive ceremony. With this award, the ACR recognizes Grosu's research achievements and innovative approach to the use of high-precision radiotherapy for cancer, particularly in the optimization of radiotherapy planning with advanced imaging.
Radiotherapy is a central pillar in the treatment of cancer patients, enabling a cure in many cases while sparing neighboring organs. Advanced imaging techniques, for example with the help of artificial intelligence, can help to tailor the distribution of the radiation dose precisely to the patient. "Radiotherapy is becoming increasingly individualized and personalized," says Grosu. "This allows us to spare healthy tissue and target the cancer cells."
Honorary membership is awarded annually by the ACR to non-members who have made special contributions to radiology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine or medical physics with their work.
