Tech-savvy and close to people: If you are looking for an exciting and future-oriented apprenticeship, the School for Medical-Technical Radiology Assistance at the Academy for Medical Professions at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is the right place for you. All interested parties, especially students and their parents, are invited to find out more about the exciting profession of medical-technical radiology assistant, also known as MTRA, at the open day on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 10 am to 4 pm. The information day will take place in the new premises at Breisacher Straße 133 in Freiburg, which the school only moved into in May.

The areas of application and career opportunities will be presented in interesting lectures and practical activities. Visitors will gain exclusive insights into the various imaging techniques using modern medical equipment on site. The lecturers will be available to answer questions. The event is free of charge and registration is not necessary.

Sound theory, varied practice

MTRAs take X-ray images, operate computer and magnetic resonance tomographs or carry out radiotherapy together with the physicians treating cancer. "In addition to technical understanding, empathy and care are also required when working with state-of-the-art equipment and as a point of contact for patients," says Christian Oertel, Head of the School for Medical-Technical Radiology Assistance.

"At the new location, the students benefit from an appealing learning environment with bright, large classrooms and modern equipment that enables digital learning and teaching," says Franz-Josef Overhoff, Head of the Academy for Medical Professions. "Trainees at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg have a wide range of practical assignments in radiology, radiation medicine, nuclear medicine and neuroradiology."

The demand for trained MTRAs is very high. This is why the employment and future prospects in this profession are above average. The Medical Center - University of Freiburg is making provisions for the future: New training places for MTRAs have been created for several years now. "We will soon be able to train 144 students, which is almost three times the number of places on offer," says Overhoff. Two training courses start each year, in April and October.
