In 2022, there were 2,217 births at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

This is good news: In 2022, 2,319 children saw the light of day at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg with 2,217 births. There were 108 multiple births, including quadruplets. In 2021, there were 2,172 births and 2,276 newborns. Contrary to a negative trend across Germany of around seven percent fewer births overall, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg remains very popular with expectant parents. It was the only hospital in Freiburg to increase its birth rate and is also the only university hospital in Baden-Württemberg to record a positive trend.

"My special thanks go to all the midwives and physicians in obstetrics who work around the clock all year round to ensure that women have a good and safe birth here," says Prof. Dr. Ingolf Juhasz-Böss, Medical Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center of Freiburg. "I would also like to thank all other cooperation partners of the Perinatal Center for their excellent collaboration."

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is certified as a "Level I Perinatal Center" together with the Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Section of the Department of General Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine and Neonatology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. In accordance with this highest classification level, the focus is on family-friendly obstetrics in addition to high-risk deliveries and extremely premature births.
