The University Hospitals of Freiburg, Strasbourg and Basel want to work more closely together in future / Potential in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases

At a meeting of the Upper Rhine university hospitals on Thursday, August 24, 2023, representatives of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, the Hopitaux Universitaires de Strasbourg, the University Hospital Basel and the University Children's Hospital Basel signed a declaration of intent to cooperate. The aim is to strengthen cross-border cooperation - particularly in the area of rare diseases and the exchange of staff.

"With the declaration of intent, we are setting an important milestone for cross-border medical cooperation between the university hospitals. The initiative not only opens up new opportunities for patients, but also promotes medical exchange and advanced training for medical staff," says Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Support from TRISAN

The university hospitals were supported in their project by TRISAN, the tri-national competence center for cooperation in the healthcare sector in the Upper Rhine region, which is supported by the Euro-Institut. The support was provided as part of the TRISAN project "Trinational framework for cross-border healthcare in the Upper Rhine region", which was co-financed by the INTERREG V A Upper Rhine program, the Swiss Confederation (New Regional Policy) and 29 institutional partners from France, Germany and Switzerland.
