The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is expanding its training institute for systemic therapy
On Friday, October 20 , the Systemic Institute for Education and Advanced Training at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg opened its new premises in Eugen-Martin-Straße. In addition to modern seminar and training rooms, the office and outpatient clinic are now also housed in the shared premises. The facility enables prospective therapists to complete supervised treatment hours in order to gain practical experience and develop new perspectives in psychotherapeutic practice. "The new premises are a symbol of the continuous development of the department," says Institute Director Prof. Dr. Claas Lahmann, Medical Director of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. Since September 2020, the Systemic Institute, under the direction of Lahmann, has been offering training as a psychological psychotherapist in the specialization area of systemic therapy in cooperation with the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy.
"With this expansion, we want to further strengthen the multi-layered and practical training of systemic therapists, which will ultimately benefit people in the region," says Prof. Dr. Stefan Schmidt, Deputy Director of the Institute and Research Professor at the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
Systemic therapy is a scientifically recognized psychotherapy method and has been covered by statutory health insurance since July 2020. It focuses on the relationships in which people live and sees the emergence of problems in the interaction of external and internal systems. By activating existing resources and opening up diverse perspectives, new opportunities for action are created. Based on this approach, treatment often takes place in a multi-person setting together with the partner or family.
