Holistic advice for cancer patients
Medical Center - University of Freiburg study aims to improve complementary medical advice for cancer patients / Test subjects wanted
The INTEGRATIV+ study at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - University of Freiburg (CCCF) is now investigating the feasibility and acceptance of a new concept for complementary medical advice for cancer patients. The project is being funded by the Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. with 180,000 euros.
"Many cancer patients have questions about naturopathic and complementary medicine approaches such as herbal medicines, nutritional supplements or relaxation techniques. With the new counseling concept, we want to provide patients with scientifically sound information about such measures," says project leader PD Dr. Christine Greil, senior physician at the Department of Medicine I at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The research project is based on the predecessor study CCC-Integrativ, which has already developed such a counseling concept. If the consultation proves successful, it will be integrated into the routine care of cancer patients in the future.

The non-profit association Fördergesellschaft Forschung Tumorbiologie e.V. is closely linked to the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and has been funding regional research projects from donations since 1992. It primarily supports research into innovative cancer therapies as well as strategies to improve therapy support and rehabilitation.
Course of the study
Adult patients receiving outpatient cancer treatment at the CCCF can take part in the study. Within three months, they receive two free consultations on naturopathic and complementary medicine topics based on current scientific recommendations. A specially trained specialist and a nursing expert will discuss the patient's individual situation in detail. A total of 200 test subjects are being sought for the study.
