Public event on organ donation on April 25 at 6.30 p.m. / Talks, short presentations, interactive contributions and space for questions and discussions

Many people are generally in favor of organ and tissue donation, but still have questions or doubts before making a decision. In order to clarify these unanswered questions, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is hosting a discussion and information evening on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. under the motto "Organ donation: Inform - Discuss - Decide". The free public event will take place in the auditorium of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hugstetter Str. 55 in Freiburg. In a mixture of talks with those affected and experts, presentations and discussions with the audience, the various perspectives on the topic will be examined and questions answered. Registration is not necessary. The event is part of the #FreiburgEntscheidetSich campaign, which was co-initiated by the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

During the information evening, a patient who received a kidney transplant as a child and has been back on the waiting list for a donor organ for eight years will tell her personal story. Short presentations will cover the topics of "Intensive therapy and organ donation - what does that mean?" and the question of why and how one's own will to donate organs and tissue should be documented correctly and securely. Information will also be provided on the new digital organ donor register. In addition, numerous questions on the topic of "Transplantation: What is possible?" will be answered and the fundamental differences between the consent and objection solutions will be explained. Throughout the event, visitors will be invited to make their own decisions and thus develop an informed position on organ donation.

The speakers for the evening are Prof. Dr. Hartmut Bürkle, Medical Director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, Dr. Klaus-Michael Lücking, Organ Donation Officer at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and Dr. Bernd Jänigen, Head of the Transplant Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The moderator will be health and radio presenter Julica Goldschmidt.
