Lecture series: Who am I? New perspectives on the self

Psychosomatic Tuesday Colloquium to be held for the 20th time in summer semester 2024 / First lecture in the event series on May 14 / Online and in-person participation possible

How are soul, body and mind connected? This overarching question connects the lectures of the Psychosomatic Tuesday Colloquium of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, which is taking place for the 20th time this year. Starting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the lecture series will be dedicated to the profound question "Who am I?". The lectures will take place from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in lecture hall 1010 in the Kollegiengebäude I at the University of Freiburg and online.

"This year's colloquium offers a rare opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research into the understanding of identity and self-awareness," says Prof. Dr. Claas Lahmann, Medical Director of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Self, self-concept and self-experience

The interdisciplinary colloquium will be kicked off by the renowned philosopher and consciousness researcher Prof. Dr. Thomas Metzinger from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with his lecture "Why there is no self and why the ego is not an illusion." Other sessions will deal with the development of the self in social interactions, its role in mental illness and the influence of meditation and psychedelic experiences on our mental life.
