Robotic surgery in women's health: find out more and try it out
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the focus will be on the treatment of endometriosis and gynaecological cancers / Focus on minimally invasive therapies / Short presentations, patient interviews and the opportunity to control a surgical robot yourself

Endometriosis is one of the most common complaints in women. Thanks to robot-assisted surgery, many sufferers can now be cured gently, precisely and quickly. Many women with cancer also benefit from this minimally invasive technique. The Medical Center - University of Freiburg is offering an extraordinary opportunity to explain the procedures and advantages of this robotic-assisted procedure to patients who may be facing such an operation: on Thursday, June 20, 2024, interested parties will have the opportunity to see a state-of-the-art surgical robot up close and even control it themselves at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hugstetter Straße 55 in Freiburg. In addition, the entire spectrum of diagnostics and treatment options for cancer and endometriosis will be presented during a panel discussion. The free event starts at 5.30 p.m. and registration is not necessary.
"We want to offer women the opportunity to find out about the latest therapies for endometriosis and cancer in a low-threshold way. In particular, we will address the topic of robot-assisted surgery, because we have noticed that there are still reservations about this very gentle and precise procedure," explains Prof. Dr. Ingolf Juhasz-Böss, Medical Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical Center of Freiburg. "By giving patients the rare opportunity to see a surgical robot up close and even operate it themselves, we hope to dispel any reservations about this type of procedure."
A wealth of experience helps patients
The Medical Center - University of Freiburg is one of the largest centers for robotic surgery in Baden-Württemberg. "The integration of robotics in gynecology allows us to treat our patients with the utmost precision and care, which leads to very good results and faster recovery after surgery," explains Juhasz-Böss. "Our aim is to offer women state-of-the-art, safe and personalized treatment options."
The surgical system used has a controllable video system that provides high-resolution 3D images with up to tenfold magnification. It also consists of several finely movable arms that enable surgeons to make particularly precise incisions that are almost impossible to perform with the human hand. The camera and surgical arms are controlled by the surgeons using a specially developed control console that precisely transfers the movements of the fingers to the robotic arms.
