"Become a playmaker" campaign honored again
The Freiburg Stem Cell Registry receives the FAIR ways sponsorship award for the second time, heralding the second round of its typing campaign, which is aimed specifically at sports clubs

Just in time for World Bone Marrow Donation Day on September 21, 2024, the successful "Become a Playmaker" campaign of the Freiburg Stem Cell Registry of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is entering the next round and will be continued as a project. 10 sports clubs, 371 newly registered people and even a life-saving stem cell donation - the campaign has already won over many people in its first year. SC Freiburg is now supporting the campaign for the second time with the "Fairways Sponsorship Award" of 2,000 euros.
"The campaign is very popular, especially among young people. That's why I'm very pleased that it's now going into the next round to encourage more athletes to donate stem cells, as playmakers for life, so to speak," says Dr. Julia Braun, Administrative Head of the Freiburg Stem Cell Registry at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
Athletes become "playmakers"
At the heart of the project are typing campaigns at local and regional sports clubs in order to recruit as many new "playmakers" as possible in the fight against blood cancer. To this end, the individual typing campaigns are promoted through individualized advertising in the form of posters, flyers and social media posts. All advertising material will be personalized with photos of the local "matchmakers".
"Diversity among donorsis crucial in order to give as many patients as possiblea chance of a cure," says Prof. Dr. Justus Duyster, Medical Director of the Department of Medicine I at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The Freiburg Stem Cell Registry is therefore currently looking for young male donors, who will be targeted by the campaign.
The Freiburg Stem Cell Registry at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg has been helping patients worldwide who are affected by blood cancer or other serious diseases of the hematopoietic system for almost 25 years. The team is highly committed to the main task of recruiting new donors and supporting them throughout their journey - before, during and after the stem cell donation.
