More than 50,000 people were reached directly in Freiburg and over 12,000 organ donor cards were distributed

The organ donation campaign #Freiburgentscheidetsich, which was initiated by the city of Freiburg, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the Federal Association of Organ Transplant Patients, Regional Association of South Baden, has come to a successful end. With over a dozen events and numerous activities, well over 40,000 people were reached directly. Highlights of the campaign included the nationwide Organ Donation Day, which took place in Freiburg this year, a campaign at the SC stadium and numerous personal discussions at events and information stands. A total of 12,000 organ donor cards were distributed and many more people were made aware of the digital organ donor register.
Posters at Freiburg City Hall and at streetcar stops, spray campaigns, numerous social media posts, YouTube videos and information material displayed at central locations also supported the campaign. Citizens' offices and many local institutions also took part to raise awareness of organ donation.

"The campaign has made a big difference in Freiburg. But the topic remains highly topical. Mutual help, solidarity and civic cohesion are key values that will remain in place even after the campaign is over," emphasizes Freiburg's Lord Mayor Martin Horn.

"Everyone who has filled out an organ donor card is helping: their relatives, medical staff and potentially, of course, seriously ill people. If this has reached some people, the campaign has been a great success," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Great support from sport, business and society

More than 20 partners from the fields of sport, business and society contributed significantly to the success of the campaign. Companies, clubs and public institutions in Freiburg have spread the word through information events, internal campaigns and the distribution of organ donor cards. "We would like to thank all our partners for their commitment and support," says Burkhard Tapp from the Federal Association of Organ Transplant Recipients on behalf of the initiators. "It is thanks to their efforts that the topic of organ donation has become firmly established in Freiburg."

With further public events and the annual conference of the German Transplantation Society, which will take place in Freiburg from November 7 to 9, the topic will continue to be present in Freiburg.
