Protecting climate and health

Joint lecture series from November 11, 2024 on "Planetary Health" by the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene, the Center for Medicine and Society (ZMG) and the Cluster of Excellence initiative "Future Forests"

Extreme weather conditions and famine: the consequences of the climate crisis not only affect the environment, but also human health. In the lecture series "Planetary Health" by the Center for Medicine and Society (ZMG) at the University of Freiburg and the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, interested parties can find out what solutions can help protect both areas. The lecture series starts on Monday,November 11, 2024 and comprises seven lectures. The venue is the seminar room on the first floor of the Center for Translational Cell Research, Breisacher Straße 115, Medical Center - University of Freiburg. Each lecture starts at 6.15 pm. Admission is free, registration is not required.

"Climate change and health are inextricably linked. With the lecture series, we want to provide impetus for tackling current problems in the areas of climate, environment and health," says Prof. Dr. Philipp Henneke, Medical Director of the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, and spokesperson for the ZMG. He initiated the series together with Prof. Dr. Michael Scherer-Lorenzen, Professor of Geobotany at the Institute of Biology II at the University of Freiburg.

The lectures cover a broad spectrum and are directly related to the topics that are to be researched more intensively in future as part of the "Future Forests" Cluster of Excellence initiative at the University of Freiburg: How do forests support human well-being? What contribution can monitoring the health of wild animals make to preventing pandemics? How does climate change affect people's health, especially in low-income regions, and what measures can cities take to protect themselves from the challenges of the climate crisis? The presentations will be held in English.
