Family day at the opening of the Forum for Health Literacy
Hands-on stations, short lectures and clinic clowns on November 8 at the Center for Pediatrics / Health knowledge for children and families / Registration required
On Saturday, November 8, 2025, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg cordially invites you to the Family Day at the new Center for Pediatrics (Breisacher Str. 62, 79106 Freiburg). The focus will be on the grand opening of the Forum for Health Literacy - a place where young patients, parents and relatives can find support and guidance in dealing with health and illness. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the family day offers a colorful program to listen, participate and discover. Participation is free of charge, registration is required.
"Health literacy begins in childhood. With the forum, we are creating a place where children, families and experts can learn together, ask questions and share experiences," says Prof. Dr. Thorsten Langer, senior physician at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and spokesperson for the Forum for Health Literacy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
Learning, playing and asking questions together
The Family Day is all about the health issues of young patients and their relatives: How do I prepare my child for treatment? How can families manage the transition from everyday hospital life back to life at home? What do children with chronic illnesses need at school and in their free time? Experts will provide answers to these and other questions in short presentations. Creative stations, sports therapy offers, information stands from self-help groups and the popular clinic clowns invite you to try things out and linger. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
On Friday, November 7, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., a specialist event will take place at the Center for Pediatrics to mark the opening of the Forum for Health Literacy. Experts will give presentations on the importance of health literacy in hospitals, schools and society. Manne Lucha, Minister for Social Affairs, Health and Integration of the state of Baden-Württemberg, will be the patron of the event. He will accompany the opening with a short welcome address. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas at a get-together.
