8th Freiburg Patient Forum on Leukemias, Lymphomas & Lung Tumors
Current developments, findings and therapies / Space for individual questions and discussions
At the 8th Patient and Relatives' Day, experts from the University Medical Center Freiburg and specialists from the region will provide information on the progression, diagnosis and treatment options for various leukaemias, lymphomas and lung tumors in easy-to-understand language.
On Saturday, November 23, 2019
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at the Max Weber School, Fehrenbachallee 14, Freiburg,
hematologists, oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiotherapists and interdisciplinary experts, among others, will be on hand to answer all patients' questions in presentations and to answer individual questions. Admission is free, but please register promptly via Leukemia and Lymphoma Relief Rhine Main (LHRM, buero@LHRM.de).
The information event will be opened at 9 a.m. by Prof. Dr. Monika Engelhardt, scientific director of the forum and senior physician at the Department of Internal Medicine I at the University Medical Center Freiburg, and by Anita Waldmann, founder of the LHRM and chairwoman of the European self-help group network Myeloma Patients Europe. After a welcoming address by Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Director of the University Medical Center Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Justus Duyster, Medical Director of the Department of Internal Medicine I at the University Medical Center Freiburg, will speak on the topic of "Tumor therapies today and future paths".
Starting at 10:45 a.m., two to three recognized experts will explain illustrative case studies, current findings and treatment options for specific lymphoma and leukemia diseases in disease-specific discussion forums. For the first time, experts from radiology, thoracic surgery and oncology will also be giving presentations for lung cancer patients.
Starting at 2 p.m., customized therapy concepts, new immunotherapies and supportive measures will be presented in plenary lectures. They will also explain how diet and exercise can alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy such as chronic fatigue, how care experts can provide support and what support is available to help with the fear of the disease progressing. A comprehensive supporting program complements the lectures.
Between the individual items on the program and during a joint lunch and coffee break, interested parties will be able to get in touch with all the speakers and experts, including those from the Clinic for Palliative Medicine, the Bridge Care and the Tumor Center. The Freiburg Stem Cell Registry of the University Medical Center Freiburg will also be present with an information stand. The wind quintet "Sonare tubis" will provide a sonorous lunch break. An auction of collages by the doctor and artist Dr. Elisabeth Engelhardt, Kiel, will be donated to research at the University Medical Center Freiburg. The patient forum is organized by physicians from the Department of Internal Medicine I (focus: haematology, oncology & stem cell transplants), the Department of Thoracic Surgery, the Department of Radiation Oncology and interdisciplinary experts from the Tumor Center Freiburg - CCCF at the University Medical Center Freiburg in close cooperation with internal hematologists and oncologists from the surrounding area, the Leukemia Aid Rhein-Main e.V. and Myeloma Patients Europe.
