Lions Club Freiburg-Oberlinden donates 6,000 euros to the Children's and Youth Clinic's Colorful Circle

The Lions Club Freiburg-Oberlinden donates 6,000 euros to the Children's and Youth Clinic of the Freiburg University Medical Center. The official handover took place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at the University Medical Center Freiburg. The Bunte Kreis supports families with seriously or chronically ill children who are dependent on comprehensive support in everyday life after an often long stay in hospital. The money will be used to finance five new laptops. They are essential for mobile working and supporting families at home.

"The laptops enable us to document the course of care directly at the families' homes and to retrieve important data securely," says Marie-Louise Meyer, Case Manager of the Bunte Kreis at the Children's and Youth Clinic of the Freiburg University Medical Center. "This makes our work easier and we can be there for the families even better."

"Especially in neonatology, the work of the Bunte Kreis is invaluable. Our aim is to ensure that families are well supported after their time in the intensive care unit and arrive safely in everyday life - the Bunte Kreis is an indispensable link between hospital and home," says Prof. Dr. Ute Spiekerkötter, Medical Director of the Department of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Freiburg University Medical Center.

The colorful circle model

At the University Medical Center Freiburg, the Bunter Kreis supports families with seriously ill children from hospitalization to everyday life at home. The aim is to ensure care even after discharge from hospital and thus avoid excessive demands. An interdisciplinary team of doctors, pediatric nurses, social pedagogues, psychologists and pastors closely support the families. It coordinates medical, therapeutic and social support and provides advice in the home environment.
