Information and contributions from the hospital chaplaincy

Every year in November, a memorial service is held for children who have died. The service aims to provide space to remember the deceased children - space for mourning and lamentation, but also for encouragement and support in the community and the search for what allows us to live on.

Everyone who is mourning the loss of a child is invited.

The service is offered in cooperation with the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and the Protestant and Catholic pastoral care services.

The next memorial service will take place on November 15, 2025. The service times are 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.

The memorial service will take place in the Ecumenical Church Center, Freiburg-Rieselfeld (Maria-von-Rudloff-Platz). We will be happy to send you an invitation to this service in advance. For organizational reasons, we kindly ask you to register online in advance to participate in the memorial service.

Please fill out this contact form for the invitation and registration:Contact form for sending the invitation to the memorial service for deceased children

Ethics Café

The Ethics Café at the Freiburg University Medical Center was established with the involvement of the hospital's pastoral care team. It takes place three times a year and is dedicated to questions of medical ethics that affect and concern us not only professionally but also personally. The one-and-a-half-hour format begins with a keynote speech that leads into a moderated discussion.

The Ethics Café series in 2025 is dedicated to the topic "Ethical decision-making - what principles do we use to make decisions?".

We cordially invite all interested parties - both internal and external! For more information and the exact dates and topics, please see the flyer:

Logo of the hospital chaplaincy/cross flower

"In the gentle cross, a flower grows from the cut shoot as a symbol of life and health; in the cross, the broken can be healed. At the same time, the flower is a symbol of the Trinity and an expression of faith in the resurrection"

(from Sweden)

The flower of the cross is the joint logo of the Protestant and Catholic hospital chaplaincies.

The Stiftung Kranke Begleiten is a church foundation of the Baden regional church, which has set itself the task of strengthening and securing pastoral care at the individual clinics in the long term.

A special cooperation has been in place at the Freiburg Children's Hospital since April 1, 2014: together with the parents' association Herzklopfen e. V., the foundation is funding an additional half-time position for pastoral care in pediatric cardiology. This commitment is initially limited to 2 years. The aim is to maintain this work with further donations for the coming years.

participate - accompany - support

The pastoral care of sick people is a fundamental task of our church. Competent and qualified chaplains carry out this important and difficult work with patients in Freiburg's hospitals on a daily basis.

Hospital chaplaincy needs your financial support and benevolent accompaniment.

Support from the Freundeskreis means:

  • You share in the affection and care of sick people
  • You create the financial basis for professional pastoral care
  • You enable volunteer counselors to train and work with you
  • You receive information from the extensive field of activity
  • You can take part in medical-ethical and pastoral-psychological discussions.

The last major project supported by the Circle of Friends was the purchase of new chairs for the Protestant Emmaus Chapel/University Hospital Freiburg.

We would be delighted if you would like to support this work:
