Green ladies and gentlemen

We, the Green Ladies and Gentlemen, are volunteer helpers who make patients' stays at the hospital easier.

We have been at the University Medical Center Freiburg since 1986. We were founded in the same year by both the Johanniter and the Caritas conferences. The green coat is our trademark - you can recognize us by it.

After consultation with the nursing staff, we take time to talk to patients, accompany them on walks or run small errands on request.

Our aim is to support patients who are facing a longer stay in hospital and who do not often have the opportunity to receive private visitors or run errands themselves. We give patients the feeling and the opportunity to express their personal wishes and to be sure that someone has time and will listen to them. In the children's clinic, we want to relieve the mothers or fathers so that they have some space for themselves.

We usually work from Monday to Friday - in the mornings on different wards. We are also on site at the children's clinic from Monday to Thursday in the afternoons.

Please contact the nursing staff on your ward if you would like to get in touch. We can be contacted via our beeper numbers if necessary. A total of around 50 Green Ladies and Gentlemen work at the Freiburg University Medical Center. Are you also interested in this voluntary work? Then please contact the management team - we look forward to hearing from you!

The green coats stayed in the cupboard

On the Friday before carnival, the gowns stayed in the cupboard. The Green Ladies and Gentlemen of the Christian Hospital Aid and the Protestant Hospital Aid / Johanniter at the University Hospital in Freiburg met for breakfast together at Haus St. Konrad, a facility for people with disabilities run by the Caritas Association of Freiburg City.

Angelina Rech and Joachim Bretschneider welcomed the colleagues and were delighted that the much-loved tradition of the "New Year's breakfast" could be resumed after the pandemic. Unfortunately, not all colleagues were able to attend the breakfast, but perhaps it will work out next year. In a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere, the "newcomers" got to talk to the "experienced" colleagues.

We are already looking forward to our next get-together in the summer in the Feierling beer garden.
