Environmentally friendly mobile

How can a hospital make the everyday lives of employees, patients and visitors easier with mobility solutions? From a subsidy for a job ticket to service stations for bicycles and charging cabinets for e-bike batteries to low-emission waste disposal in outdoor areas: this is how environmentally friendly mobility works at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

First-class mobility

In autumn 2022, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg was one of 20 companies to receive the City of Freiburg's MobilSiegel award for its climate-friendly mobility. "With job tickets, bicycle parking spaces, an electric vehicle fleet and business trips by train, we make an important contribution to sustainability at our hospital and at the same time promote the health of our employees when they cycle to work," says Anja Simon, Commercial Director of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Cycling for the climate

The Medical Center - University of Freiburg has already won the nationwide competition "City Cycling - Cycling for a Good Climate" four times as the team with the most total kilometers within the city of Freiburg. This year, the University Medical Center has once again achieved a top position. The aim of the competition is to cover as many distances as possible by bicycle or e-bike within 21 days.

Environmentally friendly infrastructure

The mobility transition is also progressing at the University Medical Center. In addition to charging stations for electric vehicles, there have been charging cabinets for e-bike batteries at four locations in Freiburg and Bad Krozingen since the beginning of 2023. The vehicle fleet is also gradually being converted to electric drives: There are already eight e-vehicles in the pool as well as two e-cargo vehicles for low-emission waste disposal. Further e-vehicles are planned, for example for the environmentally friendly delivery of post.

Two tickets, many options

Thanks to the UKF job ticket, many employees of the University Hospital can travel to work more cheaply on public transport. The University Hospital subsidizes the personal Regio-Jahreskarte by 50 percent. Since the introduction of the Deutschlandticket in April 2023, employees have been able to choose between the UKF Job Ticket and the Deutschland-Ticket Job, which is also subsidized by 50 percent.
