Hygiene Laboratory
The laboratory supports the Division of Infection Control in routine environmental monitoring (water, air, decontamination control) conducted by infection control staff in various departments of the university medical centre.
Main activities:
Environmental sampling for hospital hygiene
Detection of Legionella in drinking water, control of water and other liquids with respect to aspects of hospital hygiene (drinking water, dialysis water, dental chairs), control of cleaning of endoscopes and disinfection automats for pathogenic bacteria, check of adherence to hygienic standards (process controls, sterility checks), impression tests and swabs, microbial air monitoring, epidemiological environmental sampling for surveillance as well as in case of increased incidence of nosocomial pathogens or infections.

Molecular Laboratory
The laboratory's area of responsibility is the molecular epidemiology of nosocomial infectious agents and their antibiotic resistance genes. The laboratory support clinical hospital hygiene in investigating suspected transmission events and outbreaks.
