Literary soirée for the benefit of "Deaf children learn to hear"
On April 5, actress Johanna Wokalek will read "The Lady with the Little Dog" by Anton Chekhov
Good literature and good food for a good cause: on Sunday, April 5, 2020, the 14th Literary Soirée will take place to mark the 25th anniversary of the "Deaf Children Learn to Hear" support association. From 6 p.m., actress Johanna Wokalek will read Anton Chekhov's love story "The Lady with the Little Dog" at the Mercedes-Benz Kestenholz branch, St. Georgener Straße 1 in Freiburg. The internationally successful Freiburg-born actress Johanna Wokalek is known from theater, film and television - including leading roles in "The Popess" and "The Bader-Meinhof Complex". The reading will be accompanied by a menu from the Panorama Hotel Mercure Freiburg. A ticket including food and drinks costs 125 euros. Every day, one or two deaf children are born in Germany. Successful treatment is now possible. Electrodes are implanted microsurgically into the inner ear so that the children can hear and thus learn to speak. Adults with late-onset deafness can also be treated in this way and resume their normal lives. The association "Deaf children learn to hear" supports the optimal medical and therapeutic care of the children.
