Anja Simon took up the post of Commercial Director at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg on April 1

Anja Simon (53) has been the new Commercial Director of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg since April 1, 2020 and is therefore also a member of the Medical Center's Executive Board. The business economist takes over from Bernd Sahner, who retired at the end of 2019. "I am very much looking forward to working with Anja Simon. In these financially challenging times, it is very valuable to have an experienced hospital manager and someone who knows the hospital on the Board of Directors," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. She previously worked at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg from 1999 to 2012. Here she headed the Finance/Controlling Business Unit from 2001. She also held the position of Commercial Director on an interim basis for two years. Most recently, she was Commercial Director of the University Hospital of Würzburg. Anja Simon has also been a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of University Hospitals in Germany (VUD) since 2015.

"I am delighted to be back at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, even if my start comes in the middle of the coronavirus crisis, which is an enormous challenge for the hospital. However, I am confident that we will master the challenges ahead of us together," says Simon.

Theresia Bauer, Minister of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, commented on the appointment of Anja Simon on June 29, 2019: "With Anja Simon, we have gained an experienced and well-connected hospital manager. She knows the challenges of university medicine in Germany and will certainly contribute her experience in this field successfully in Freiburg."
