15 years "Friends of the University of Freiburg Eye Clinic"
The association celebrates its anniversary and looks back on many successful donation-funded projects
The Medical Center - University of Freiburg's Eye Center is very well positioned for the medical care of patients, research and teaching - but there are still causes that cannot be financed from the budget.
This is where the non-profit association "Freunde der Universitäts-Augenklinik Freiburg e.V." comes in, which this year looks back on 15 years of supporting humanitarian causes and scientific projects. Thanks to generous donations of more than 250,000 euros, several projects have been implemented. One focus was on medical aid for patients from abroad who had turned to the Medical Center - University of Freiburg for advice. Donations of around 140,000 euros made various eye operations possible for people from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the African continent.
Other projects supported were
- Acquisition of special equipment for diagnostics and surgical therapy
- Financing of two special consultation hours for rare eye diseases
- Establishment of an ophthalmological examination station at the home for the blind in Freiburg
- Supporting a cooperation with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Tanzania for the treatment of children with eye diseases
- Filling funding gaps for two clinical studies
- Sponsoring an international symposium on the topic of "Zebrafish models for human eye diseases"
- Awarding four doctoral scholarships
The association will continue to be actively involved in ophthalmology in the future and hopes to be able to provide tangible support for special causes through the contributions of its 100 members and generous donations.
