Psycho-oncological counseling via app
The app "My Cancer Counseling" of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is participating in the ideas competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and needs active participation in the online voting
A cancer diagnosis shakes those affected and places such a heavy burden on around a third of cancer patients that they need professional help. The Psychosocial Cancer Counseling Service at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF of the Medical Center of Freiburg offers support. For some patients, however, a long journey, physical impairments or the time-consuming cancer treatment are major hurdles that prevent them from taking advantage of the counseling services. The Psychosocial Cancer Counseling Service at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg would like to offer a solution here and develop the "My Cancer Counseling" app to provide digital support for cancer patients regardless of time or location. Citizens can now vote for the project. The top-rated ideas will then be funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
"We want to use digitalization to provide many patients with intensive support when and where they want it," says PD Dr. Alexander Wünsch, Head of Psychosocial Cancer Counselling. The app is intended to complement face-to-face counseling appointments and provide uncomplicated information and contact options in stressful situations. "The app is intended to help prevent patients from feeling left alone with their situation and contribute to the prevention of mental illness," explains psychologist Natalie Röderer, who works at the Psychosocial Cancer Counseling Service.
Voting for funding from the BMBF
The cancer counseling app was submitted by the Psychosocial Cancer Counseling Service of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg as a project idea in the BMBF's "Society of Ideas - Competition for Social Innovations". Citizens, associations and scientific institutions can propose creative ideas for positive social interaction. The cancer advice app has already been selected by the BMBF as one of the best 50 projects. The second stage of the selection process has been open for online voting since the beginning of October. To ensure that the psycho-oncological counseling app can be developed further, it is important that the public participates actively in the online voting.
Voting, including for the idea of the psychosocial cancer advice center, is possible until Wednesday, October 21, 2020: Interested parties click on the link below, enter their details and agree to participate. You must then select a project from each of the three subject areas. The cancer advice app can be found in topic area A. Voting takes about five minutes. You can find the online vote here: www.gesellschaft-der-ideen.de
If the app receives the necessary votes and is one of the top-rated ideas submitted, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg's project will receive the Ideas Award for Social Innovation and prize money of 12,500 euros.
