Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg founds new training institute for systemic therapy
The Systemic Institute for Training and Advanced Training began its work on September 1, 2020 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Claas Lahmann, Medical Director of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. In future, it will offer training to become a psychological psychotherapist specializing in systemic therapy. Registration for training starting in spring 2021 is possible until November 15, 2020.
Systemic therapy is a scientifically recognized psychotherapy method and since 1 July 2020can be billed via statutory health insurance. It focuses on the relationships in which people live and sees the emergence of problems in the interaction of external and internal systems. By activating existing resources and opening up diverse perspectives, new possibilities for action are created. Based on this approach, treatments often take place in a multi-person setting together with the partner or family.
The newly established Systemic Institute is based at the Chair of Systemic Family Therapy under the endowed professorship of Prof. Dr. phil. Stefan Schmidt in the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy. The first training year with 20 training candidates will start at the end of February 2021 with a team of experienced lecturers. The in-depth and multifaceted training will take at least five years. Together with the new institute, a systemic training outpatient clinic will also be established at the University Hospital, where candidates can complete treatment hours under supervision. The training concludes with an examination and leads to licensure as a psychological psychotherapist.
