Online lecture: When the heart gets out of sync

Prof. Dr. Ursula Ravens gives insights into her research on atrial fibrillation on February 10 / Part of the series "One hour of cutting-edge research" with Freiburg scientists of the German National Academy of Sciences - Leopoldina

Heart problems are still responsible for three of the five most common causes of death. At the same time, thanks to intensive research, enormous progress has been made in recent years and decades, which has been life-saving for many people. One of the more common and particularly dangerous heart conditions is atrial fibrillation, which can have life-threatening consequences such as a stroke. Prof. Dr. Ursula Ravens, Senior Professor at the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Freiburg - Bad Krozingen Heart Center, will explain how atrial fibrillation develops at the molecular level, what pharmacological options are available and what role connective tissue cells play in this process in an online lecture on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 6:30 pm. The livestream of the lecture "When the heart gets out of sync: New experimental findings on atrial fibrillation" will be broadcast at www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/1hspitzenforschung. There will be an opportunity for questions after the 40-minute lecture.

About the person

Ravens studied medicine at the University of Freiburg and the University of Vienna and later specialized in pharmacology. From 1997 to 2014, she held the Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine at the Technical University of Dresden. Ravens has been a member of the Leopoldina since 2001 and in 2015 she was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit First Class for her services to science in Germany.
