Online lecture: Is (age) wisdom a protection against the psychological stress caused by the pandemic?
Lecture on April 19 in the lecture series "Corona crisis and mental health", which is organized by the Medical Center - University of Freiburg together with the Freiburg Alliance against Depression e.V.
Older people are much more at risk of developing a severe, life-threatening illness in the event of a COVID-19 infection. However, all studies on the pandemic-related psychological stress in the general population have surprisingly shown that people over the age of 60 suffer significantly less than younger age groups. As the pandemic progresses, more and more people are becoming exhausted and also embittered, which has led to the term "weary", meaning "tired" and "angry", being used in the media. In the next online lecture in the series "Corona crisis and mental health", which is organized by the Medical Center - University of Freiburg together with the Freiburg Alliance against Depression e.V., Prof. Dr. Mathias Berger, Board of Directors of the Freiburg Alliance against Depression e.V. and former Medical Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, will address the topic "Is (age) wisdom a protection against pandemic-related mental stress?". It is of great relevance to find out which factors protect older people from becoming "tired" to symptoms of depression, anxiety and hopelessness and, above all, whether younger people can also improve their mental resilience to the pandemic stressors that are likely to persist for some time. The lecture will be livestreamed on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 6.30 pm.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions anonymously.
Registration is not required.
Participation is free of charge.
