On Climate Savers' Day today, the viamedica Foundation will select the best "Climate Savers - Lifesavers" in the healthcare sector for the third time / First place for an employee of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg

He has made it to first place: Joel Assmies, animal keeper at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, has won the viamedica Foundation's 2021 Climate Saver Award in the Individuals category. Assmies, a committed climate protector, cycles 33 kilometers from his home town to work every day and was able to avoid around seven tons_{of CO2} compared to cars last year. "I am very pleased that my hobby and my commitment to climate protection can be combined so easily," says Assmies. The Medical Center - University of Freiburg also made it into the top five healthcare companies nationwide in the National Climate Saver Award. 94 companies and around 4,000 individuals from the healthcare sector took part. The awards were presented for the third time, this year again virtually.

From the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, 47 groups with a total of 255 employees took part in the viamedica Foundation's "Climate Savers - Lifesavers" project. By the deadline at the end of January, the climate protectors had jointly avoided 51,395 kilograms of_CO2 through various activities - cycling, eating vegetarian food, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. That's the equivalent of around 115 kilograms per person.
