A sweet thank you from the Blood Donor Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg awaits all donors during the week of World Blood Donor Day / Donors urgently needed

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day on Monday, June 14, 2021, the Blood Donor Center at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is once again calling for blood donations. "We are grateful that people have reliably donated even in times of lockdown," says Medical Director Dr. Markus Umhau, describing the current situation. "But to really achieve a stable level in the long term, we would like to see around one hundred more donors per week."

As a small thank you, there will be a sweet surprise for all donors at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg Blood Donor Center during the week of World Blood Donor Day from June 14 to June 19, 2021. You can make an appointment to donate online. Spontaneous donations are also possible. There may be waiting times.

World Blood Donor Day
Around 1900, physicians Karl Landsteiner discovered AB0, the most common blood group classification today, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1930. His research made human-to-human blood transfusions possible with a high degree of certainty for the first time. In his honour, the World Health Organization, together with other organizations, has declared his birthday on 14 June as World Blood Donor Day.

Opening hours blood donation center:
Monday and Tuesday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Fridayand Saturday 8 am to 1 pm

Men can donate blood every eight weeks, women every twelve weeks. You must bring your identity card and, if possible, your vaccination card with you every time you donate.
