Nutrition, sport and mental health: what helps cancer patients?

Baden-Württemberg tumor centers offer consultation program on naturopathic-complementary approaches for cancer patients / Online information day on 27 October

Chronic exhaustion, nausea and other symptoms often occur in cancer patients during tumor treatment. The right diet can significantly help those affected. On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, an expert from the Medical Center - University of Freiburg will explain in a lecture at the virtual patient information day on complementary medicine and nursing care for cancer patients whether there are any food bans for cancer patients, what is well tolerated and whether there are any dangerous nutritional trends. This will take place from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm and is part of the CCC-integrativ research project of the four tumor centers in Baden-Württemberg. In online presentations, the experts will provide information about the project as well as typical accompanying symptoms of tumor therapies such as nausea and polyneurpathy and their treatment. There will also be insights into relaxation and mindfulness-based exercise for cancer patients. The event is free of charge and registration is not required.

Complementary naturopathic methods such as yoga, acupuncture and individual herbal medicines can alleviate symptoms during or after cancer treatment. However, they also involve risks. In order to help patients in this uncertain situation to make a good decision with sound advice, the CCC-integrativ research project and advisory program was launched at the beginning of 2021, in which the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg and the three oncological centers of excellence in Heidelberg, Ulm and Tübingen are involved.

"Patients are often looking for ways to alleviate the symptoms that accompany tumor treatment. Our specially trained physicians and nurses advise whether and which complementary medical measures make sense for each individual. Of course, we work closely with the treating oncologists," says the speaker and expert Prof. Dr. Hartmut Bertz, hematologist and oncologist as well as head of the Nutritional Medicine and Dietetics Section of the Department of Medicine I and project manager at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Interested parties can obtain further information on the consultations at the Freiburg site in the flyer, by e-mail to med1.studie.ccc.integrativ@uniklinik-freiburg.de or by telephone on 0761 270-34973.
