Elected President of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
Freiburg heart surgeon becomes president of the largest scientific society for cardiothoracic surgery in Europe
Prof. Dr. Dr. Friedhelm Beyersdorf, Medical Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, has been elected President of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS). At the same time, he was confirmed as a member of the board. The election of the new Board of Directors of the EACTS took place at this year's annual meeting in Barcelona in mid-October. Beyersdorf has been a member of the EACTS since 2002 and was already appointed Editor-in-Chief of the EACTS scientific journals from 2010 to 2020.
The EACTS was founded in 1986. Today, with more than 4,000 active members from research and clinical practice, it is one of the largest scientific societies for cardiothoracic surgery worldwide. The organization promotes scientific and practical developments in the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery with the aim of advancing the field and pooling and publishing the results for the benefit of the public.
